Improving protections of employees’ wages and entitlements

The Business Council of Australia supports reforms that will strengthen the integrity of Australia’s workplace laws so that everyone – business, workers and the community – can be confident that those laws will be observed and that breaches will attract appropriate consequences.

There is a need to modernise the enforcement regime under the Fair Work Act 2009 so that sanctions for the most serious breaches of workplace laws are more closely aligned to those that apply under other laws regulating business conduct. The Business Council supports the introduction of criminal sanctions for such breaches.
