Workplace safety is a high priority for companies and many are developing programs to ensure their record remains unblemished.

Fluid power solutions company, Custom Fluidpower developed a Zero Harm Safety program for employees 18 months ago as part of a plan to achieve no lost hours to injury.

Custom Fluidpower HR & OHS manager Gary Brewer said the company has created a Zero Harm Safety Philosophy which outlines safety requirements for every job.

“Safety is good business,” Brewer said. “Safety must be integrated as a core business and personal value. In the past our safety record has been inconsistent but since implementing the plan we have had zero loss time.”

According to Brewer under the philosophy all injuries are preventable and management is responsible and accountable for preventing injuries.

“The combined energy of the entire organisation is necessary to continuously improve & excel in safety performance.”

Brewer said the philosophy also recognises that all operating conditions that could result in injuries or occupational illness can be controlled.

He added the company has produced a five step plan to ensure that staff have a program to follow to assess safety concerns and is having regular workshops to educate the team.

Custom Fluidpower
has eight offices and over 188 staff across Australia servicing mining, agriculture, marine industries and recently joined the First 5000 network.
