University of Sydney offers free tailormade report on opportunities in Mexico

| May 14, 2019

With its open economy, large consumer base, macro-economic stability and ongoing structural reforms, Mexico will continue to grow as an attractive destination for foreign investors and exporters.

“Mexico is the second largest and most interconnected economy on the [American] continent, as well as Australia’s largest trading partner in Latin America. Reforms by the current Mexican administration are opening new sectors and new opportunities to Australian businesses, while Mexico’s network of FTAs with North and South America make the country an exceptional gateway to the Americas.”- Mexico: Gateway to the Americas (Export Council of Australia, December 2015)

With its open economy, large consumer base, macro-economic stability and ongoing structural reforms, Mexico will continue to grow as an attractive destination for foreign investors and exporters.

The University of Sydney will therefore return to Mexico in July this year with a group of master’s in international business students to evaluate the business opportunities for Australian companies first hand.

Students will be supported by representatives of Austrade, ECA, ANZMEX as well as local consultants and industry experts to evaluate the market opportunities and write their reports.

All Australian companies, small and large, that are interested in a report outlining their opportunities in Mexico are invited to sign up, all free of charge. The students can look at export opportunities, but also at investment opportunities, or at the possibility of manufacturing in Mexico or how to use Mexico as a launchpad for exporting to the Americas. You just let us know and we will brief them accordingly. Companies do not need to have serious plans to enter the Mexican market to sign up for a report; just a serious interest in finding out more about the opportunities awaiting them there.

If you sign up, a team of 5 students will work independently and free of cost on your report. What we expect from participating companies in return, is that they give their student team a good briefing about their company in the second half of June. You can either come to Sydney for the briefing, or if you are not too far away, students can come to you.

In July the students will work full time on the project, including 2 weeks of fieldwork in Mexico City. During this time, you don’t need to do anything, other than maybe respond to the occasional email or phone call. The consulting reports our students prepare will be available mid-August. They have proven to be greatly beneficial for the participating companies. Simultaneously, you help the students by making it possible for them to have this practical, hands-on and real-life experience, which is an invaluable learning opportunity for them.
