Make those New Year goals stick

| June 12, 2012

Motivation and clear goal setting is important to ensuring that you and your staff are hitting their targets. Shivani Gupta shares her ideas on how to make sure you stick to the plan.

We are almost half way through the year. How are you going with those goals you set for yourself and your department or organisation in the New Year or at the last planning session?

We often start off eagerly, wanting to do things differently this year.  For most people, after a few weeks, the motivation starts to fade and old habits creep back in. It takes about six to eight weeks to form a new habit or to let go of an old one.

If you haven’t progressed those goals or haven’t set any, it is not too late. Here are five tips on goal setting.

1. Don’t make your goals too hard or make too many.

2. Make sure the goals are realistic to achieve in the time frame you have set them.

3. Write your goals down and place them where you and the team can see them.

4. Put time in your diary now to review your goals throughout the year.

5. Celebrate and reward yourself and the team when a goal is reached.
